Volunteer Opportunities

Here are several different ways that you can get involved at First Baptist Church.

Disaster Relief Ministry: Volunteers travel to areas of natural disaster as part of mass feeding, chainsaw, mud out, or rebuild teams.  Disaster Relief Training from the Tennessee Baptist Convention is required for participation.  Contact Bill Simons, Disaster Relief Ministry Coordinator, at simm8438@bellsouth.net.

Wednesday Night Suppers:  Volunteers assist the cook in preparation, serving, and clean up.  Contact Barbara Ball, Wednesday night cook at 952-8570.

Decision Counselors: Volunteers are available during worship services to counsel those who respond during the invitation.  Witness training such as Anatomy of a Christian Witness is a prerequisite to volunteering for this ministry.  Contact Diane Argraves, Decision Counselor Coordinator, at argraves408@gmail.com.

Greeters:  Volunteers greet guests at the welcome center and other entrances on Sunday mornings to welcome them to worship or help them find Sunday School classes.  Contact Beth Penick, Greeter Coordinator, at penick4@charter.net.

Prayer Ministry:  Volunteers pray for prayer requests received by a telephone or email prayer chain/  Contact Debbie Leet, Prayer Chain Coordinator, at eleet@edge.net.

Sunday School:  Volunteers lead Bible study on Sundays at 7:45 AM and 9:45 AM for adults, youth, children, and preschoolers.  Contact Cyndi Cox, Director of Christian Education, at ccox.fbc@gmail.com or 728-2138.

Security Volunteers: Volunteers provide security during Sunday worship services.  These volunteers lock the rear entrances after worship services have begun and are stationed in the building during worship services.  Contact Mike Tucker, Security Coordinator, at mtuk@bellsouth.net.

Bookstore:  Volunteers staff our church bookstore which provides resources for church ministries and Christian living.  Contact Tammy Pettit at tammypettit@charter.net.

Recreation:  Volunteers are needed to staff the gym when it is open.  Volunteers are needed to work with Upward basketball.   Contact Julie Brawner, Recreation Director, at njbrawner@bellsouth.net.

Audio/Video Ministry:  Volunteers are needed during worship services to operate the sound system, video, and slides.  Contact Bart Starr at bstarr.fbc@gmail.com.

Celebrate Recovery: Volunteers provide teaching and lead small groups of men and women seeking to recover from the hurts, habits and hang-ups of life.  Contact Dorothy Scott at ldscott86@blomand.net.

Outreach: Volunteers contact guests who have visited our worship services to thank them for coming and invite them to a Sunday School class.  Volunteers are given contact information each week through a secure website and call, visit, or email guests in their age grouping.  Contact Brenton Cox pastor, at bcox_fbc@hotmail.com or 728-2138.

Feed My Sheep:  Volunteers cook and serve a free hot meal in the fellowship hall to anyone in need once each month on a Monday at 11:00 AM/  Contact Bart Starr, Minister of Music, at bstarr.fbc@gmail.com or 728-2138.  You can also check our website under  

Preschool Ministry:  Volunteers provide childcare for children age birth through age three during worship services.  Volunteers must be 18 years old and must be members of First Baptist Church or FBC Sunday School.  Contact Melissa Todd, Director of Preschool Ministries at melandscoot@yahoo.com.

Children's Ministry:  Volunteers lead worship for children age 4-grade 3 during Sunday morning worship services.  Volunteers must be members of First Baptist Church.  Contact Liz Lawson, Director of Children's Ministries at lizandsteve@charter.net.

Vacation Bible School:  Volunteers lead Bible study, music, crafts, missions, and recreation for Preschool through Middle School one week during June, 9:00 AM to 12 noon.  Contact Melissa Todd, Director of Preschool Ministries at melandscoot@yahoo.com or Liz Lawson, Director of Children's ministries at lizandsteve@charter.net.

Music Ministry:  Volunteers sing in the choir (practice Wednesdays at 6:30 PM), sing in senior adult choir (Faithful Heart, practices Thursdays at 10:30 AM), play in the handbell choir (practices Mondays at 6:00 PM), and play in the orchestra (practice Mondays at 5:00 PM).  Contact Bart Starr, Minister of Music at bstarr.fbc@gmail.com or 728-2138.

Student Ministry: Volunteers lead worship, lead small groups, and chaperone teenagers on Wednesday evenings at 6:00 PM.  Volunteers chaperone retreats, camps, and mission trips.  Volunteers host students in their homes for FUSE (Follow-up Sunday Evening).  Contact Scott Whaley, Minister to Students, at 728-2138.

Oakley Ministry:  Each Monday afternoon during the school year, volunteers provide homework help, children's activities, Bible study, a free meal, and distribute food commodities.  During the summer, volunteers lead a weekly children's Bible club.  These ministries take place at Oakley Ministry Center, a property our church owns in the Oakley community near Hillsboro.  Contact Brenton Cox, Pastor, or Scot Whaley, Minister to Students.
