Christian Development Program

Our Christian Development Program is designed to help you systematically grow as a Christian.  After Sunday School, this is the most important connection in our church.  CDP classes meet on Wednesdays at 6:30 PM.  Pick up a Prayer List from the racks in the foyer.

Our Christian Development program consists of four levels of basic classes:

Level One:  Membership

This level consists of one five-week class called "New Member Orientation."  It covers assurance of salvation, basic Christian beliefs, and how to grow as a Christian.  It also includes a spiritual gifts inventory and a tour of our church facilities.  This class is offered each January, April, July and October.

Level Two:  Discipleship

This level consists of three classes designed to help Christians grow in the basic disciplines of the Christian life.  A level two class begins the week following the conclusion of the level one class.  These classes are led by our pastor, Brenton Cox:

  • God, Money, and You (A five week class beginning each January)  Learn what the Bible says about the Christian attitude toward money, how to manage money, and how to become a giver and a tither.  Learn how our church uses its resources to support missions.
  • Anatomy of a Christian Witness (A nine week class beginning each February)  Learn how to share your faith in Christ, how to handle common objections to the gospel, how to experience the boldness of the Holy Spirit, and how to minister in love to non-Christians.
  • Introduction to Prayer and Bible Study ( A nine week class beginning each August)  Learn five types of prayer, how to develop a prayer routine, how to make a prayer notebook, and how to develop concentration in prayer.  Learn how to interpret and apply the Bible to your life.

Level Three:  Ministry

This class consists of one five-week class entitled "Ministry:  Discovering It and Doing It."  This class helps each participant discover his or her unique SHAPE for ministry and introduces the ministries of First Baptist Church.  The goal of this class is that participants will become involved in a ministry of First Baptist Church.

Level Four:  Leadership

This level consists of one five-week class entitled "Jesus on Leadership."  This class teaches principles of servant leadership for Christians as modeled by Jesus.  The goal of this class is that participants will assume a role of leadership in First Baptist Church.
