Elective Classes

The Life You've Always Wanted (August 10 - September 14) 6 sessions

John Ortberg will teach you how to "run the race" of the Christian life. As in training for a marathon, real Christian growth doesn't come so much from "trying harder" but from consistent training. For centuries followers of Jesus have developed strength and endurance through practicing the spiritual disciplines.  This series features modern perspectives on the ancient but always life-changing spiritual disciplines: slowing down, celebrating joy, practicing prayer, studying Scripture, and trusting God. As you and your group practice these in community, you’ll experience greater joy, peace, kindness, and all the signposts of a faith that’s vital, real, and growing.  Led by David Hurst.

The Art of Finishing Well (September 21 - October 26) 6 sessions for Senior Adults

Society has become accustomed to the seventy-five year old student, the fifty year old retiree, and the sixty-five year old father of a preschooler.  But what does the Bible say about growing old?  It holds many answers.  Discussion, laughter, shared insights, and stories will make this a fun class!  Led by Gary and Bunny Woods

 Your Move  (September 21 - October 12) 4 sessions

We are all faced with decisions that we never anticipated having to make.   And, we usually have to make them quickly.   In this four session video group study, author and pastor Andy Stanley discusses four questions that will help you make sound decisions with God’s help.  You will learn how every decision and its outcomes become a permanent part of your story, what to do when you feel the need to pause before taking action, and how to make more of this life by making sound decisions. Led by Kirk Rutland

Courageous Living Bible Study (October 19 - November 9)  4 sessions

In the movie, COURAGEOUS, we see the men gather regularly outside of work to better understand God's calling on their lives. The Courageous Living Bible Study helps lead men toward living more courageously in four key areas: Responsibility: serving, protecting, and casting a vision for their family, Priorities: focusing on eternal things rather than what is temporary, Legacy: recognizing a father's potential impact as a godly role model, Faith: strengthening a father's identity in Christ, increasing in wisdom. While we need men to step up and be the fathers that God has called and equipped them to be, we also need women to understand that call and to provide the support and encouragement to make it a reality for our families.

 Christianity & Islam (November 30 - December 14)  3 sessions

A three-part video series   This study compares and contrasts Christianity and Islam.  Based on the best-selling book Is the Father of Jesus the God of Muhammad?  by Dr. Timothy George, this series avoids the angry condemnation of all Muslims on the one hand, or a compromising of Christian truth-claims on the other.  Muslim views are stated fairly and objectively by Muslim scholars who appear in the seriesLed by Brenton Cox

Five Lies That Ruin Relationships (January 4 - March 7)  10 weeks

This series by Chip Ingram from the book of  James chapters 4 & 5  will define the 5 most common lies that have the potential to ruin relationships with those we love.  Uncover the source of quarreling, how our words wound, how not to make decisions, and why better things don't always make things better.  Led by Cameron & Sara Liner

Faith, Hope, and Luck (January 4 - February 1) 5 sessions

Our faith in God often hinges on his activity—or inactivity—in our daily experiences. When our prayers are answered, our faith soars. When God is silent, it becomes harder to trust him. When God shows up in an unmistakable way, our confidence in Him reaches new heights. But when he doesn't come through, our confidence often wanes. But Andy Stanley says it doesn't have to be that way—it's not supposed to be that way.
 Led by Randy Damewood

The Christian Atheist  (February 8 -  March 14) 6 sessions

Are you putting your whole faith in God...but living as if everything is up to you?  Join us on a journey toward an authentic, God-honoring life.  Become more than a "Christian in name" as you discover ways to surrender to God completely, living every day depending upon the Holy Spirit.  Led by Kari Whaley

 Weird:  Because Normal Isn't Working (March 21 - April 25) 6 sessions

Normal people are stressed, overwhelmed, and exhausted. Many of their relationships are, at best, strained and, in most cases, just surviving. Even though we live in one of the most prosperous places on earth, normal is still living paycheck to paycheck and never getting ahead. Lust and frequent “casual” sex are far more common than purity and a healthy married sex life. And when it comes to God, the majority believe in him, but the teachings of Scripture rarely make it into their everyday lives.  Simply put, normal isn’t working.  Led by Cyndi Cox

 Becoming a Missional Christian (May 9 - May 30)  4 Sessions

What is missions?  Does every Christian have a specific mission?  How do I find my mission?  How do I know if God is calling me to career missions?  How is our church involved in missions? How can I find my mission in my home?  In my workplace?  In my community?  How can I be involved in fulfilling the Great Commission around the world?  How can I be involved in a short-term mission trip?  In summer missions?  How can I serve God in my retirement?  Led by Brenton Cox

One Minute After You Die (June 13 - August 8) 8 sessions

Erwin Lutzer opens a window on eternity with a simple and moving explanation of what the Bible teaches about death.  Explore these issues:  channeling, reincarnation, and near-death experiences, what heaven will be like, the justice of eternal punishment, the death of a child, trusting in God's providence, preparing for your own final moment.  Led by Gary Woods.
